Speed Test VPS's from Google, AWS, DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr,UpCloud , OVH etc..(Spring 2121)
I use each of the providers Linux Ubuntu 20.04 Machine Images and then Install 2 different types of benchmarking software to measure the instances CPU Speed, Memory and Disk speeds, before presenting the results in a series of graphs and presenting my conclusion.
The Commands Used
=================
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo wget cdn.geekbench.com/Geekbench-5.4.0-Linux.tar.gz
sudo tar -xf Geekbench-5.4.0-Linux.tar.gz
cd Geekbench-5.4.0-Linux
sudo ./geekbench5
https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/????????
sudo apt install sysbench -y &&
sudo sysbench memory –memory-oper=write –memory-block-size=1K –memory-scope=global –memory-total-size=100G –threads=4 –time=60 run
Record: (xxxx.xx MiB/sec)
sudo sysbench fileio –file-total-size=20G prepare
sudo sysbench fileio –file-test-mode=rndrd –file-total-size=20G –file-block-size=4K –threads=4 –time=60 run
Record: Throughput: read/s xxxxx.x
========================================
Only where I could find a provider , where they charged by the hour and offered pay-as-you-go, were they benchmarked in this test. As paying for a months usage was too expensive for me.
The Monthly cost i display against eash provider is their houly cost , scaled up to a months usage.
If you commit to paying for a month or year prices in advance then for example the big providers for example AWS, Google Cloud or Azure give 30-50% off the prices shown. Other Providers offer a rage of discounts.
I have assumed that their are no free introduction periods or trials. I have also assumed that there are no aditional network costs.
I assumed all instances were in London / UK South datacentres.
